Job summary

General Mills Wellston, OH is seeking a Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership for electrical and controls systems across the plant. You will collaborate with engineers, operators, maintenance, and external vendors to implement PLC/HMI projects and maintain system reliability.

You will support safety compliance, troubleshoot complex control issues, and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes by applying advanced control strategies and technology.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required; electrical or controls preferred.
• 3+ years of related experience in control systems engineering.
• Experience with PLC/HMI hardware and software and manufacturing networks.
• Familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70E codes and industrial safety standards.

**POSITION OVERVIEW** The General Mills Wellston, OH Plant manufactures Totino’s Pizza and Pizza Rolls. The Controls Engineer will provide technical leadership for electrical and controls systems for all areas of the Wellston Plant. This position requires considerable interaction with project engineers, systems engineers, electricians, plant floor personnel, leadership team, and external engineers and vendors. **KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES*** Contribute to a safety culture that strives for zero injuries by proactively identifying and addressing physical/environmental/behavioral issues and implementing best practices for safety reliable control circuits* Ensure existing and new equipment and infrastructure meets applicable electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, etc.) and GMI Global CIS Standards* Provide tactical and troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance in the area of controls and information systems* Provide strategic support for engineering, operations, and maintenance to drive out losses in the manufacturing process by leveraging existing and emerging control system technology and methodologies* Implementation of PLC and HMI hardware/software and manufacturing networks in accordance with GMI standards* Build and maintain a strong working relationship with engineers, operations and maintenance leadership, controls techs, floor personnel, and external engineers/vendors* Provide technical coaching and development for controls team* Manage electrical and controls architecture, including servers, PLC’s HMI’s, and VFD’s* Provide input into the plants capital plan and proactively manage obsolescence of controls systems* Support plant capital projects as a controls and electrical systems lead.* Manage electrical/controls related capital projects as necessary* Manage external integrators as necessary **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*** Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from ABET- accredited program, Degrees preferred: Electrical or Controls Engineering* 3+ years of related experience* Hardware application, programming and integration experience with the following: + Wonderware Intouch, InSql, DAS, and System Platform + AB (Allen Bradley) Control Logix, PLC5, SLC; Panelviews; Panelview Plus’, InCuity, and RSLinx + AB and Indramat Servo Controllers + Serial, RIO, DH+, Ethernet, ControlNet and DeviceNet Communications o Knowledge of computers, servers and Windows Operating Systems + VFDs; Load Cells; Metering Feeders; Control Valves, Level, Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Position, Presence devices and other common field devices* Ability to interpret and apply the NEC, NFPA 70E, GMI Corporate and other standards to the plant equipment and projects* Solid experience in leading with Electrical Contractors and Third Party Controls Integrators as part of capital project initiatives* Experience with Process Control, Packaging Control, Equipment Specification and Panel Design* Provide strategic support for engineering, operations, and maintenance to drive out losses in the manufacturing process by leveraging existing and emerging control system technology and methodologies* Implementation of PLC and HMI hardware/software and manufacturing networks in accordance with GMI standards* Ability to troubleshoot PLC’s at the code level and troubleshoot equipment and wiring* Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills* Commitment to Continuous Improvement and use of the tools to drive improvements* Ability to train and pass skills on to others.* Demonstrated strong communication abilities and interpersonal skills* High technical aptitude and learning agility* Willing to provide support off shift and/or on weekends to support 24 hour plant operations, as needed **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*** Understanding of and experience with power distribution and associated equipment (24V, 120V, 208V, 230V, 240V, 277V, 480V, 4160V)* AutoCAD experience **ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS*** International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.* Applicants for this position must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
