Job summary

E2i Inc in the Greater Chicago Area is seeking a process automation engineer to support PLC, HMI, and SCADA projects, develop control software, and troubleshoot equipment. You will interact with clients, read P&IDs, and ensure MES compatibility.

Ideal candidates hold a 4-year engineering degree and 3–5 years of experience in process control and automation, with a track record in Rockwell/Siemens environments. This role emphasizes on-site collaboration and problem-solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years in process control and automation.
• 3–5 years programming/configuring PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA software with noted vendors.
• Ability to support MES systems.
• Ability to read P&IDs and instrumentation diagrams.
• Willingness to address on-call requests as needed.

Snapshot of Position

• Provide automation support and troubleshooting where needed; assist in the implementation of change controls for process improvements and bug fixes as needed

Location & Travel

• Primary Location: Greater Chicago Area (South Suburbs such as Bourbonnais, Manteno, etc.) with the possibility to support clients at other locations

What You Need for this Position

• 3 - 5 years of experience in process control and automation
• 3 - 5 years of experience in programming/developing/configuring PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA software for control systems (experience with Rockwell, FactoryTalk View SE/ME; iFix, DeltaV, PlantPAx, PCS7, Siemens, or Wonderware is a plus)
• Ability to support Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
• Ability to read piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
• Ability to address on‑call requests as needed
