Job summary

Actalent in Alabama is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, and support complete automation systems for manufacturing. You will own projects from concept through startup, combining electrical design, PLC and robot programming, panel layout, and hands-on troubleshooting on the shop floor.

The role requires a BS in Engineering, extensive PLC/robot experience, and strong troubleshooting skills. It is a full-time, on-site position in Hartselle, with opportunities to lead installations and

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required.
25+ years engineering experience in building controls, machine tools, and troubleshooting control systems preferred.
Strong experience in PLC programming and automation controls engineering.
Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting for complex manufacturing and facility equipment.
Hands-on experience with PLC platforms and protocols (Allen-Bradley RSLogix, Siemens Step 5/7, GE Machine Edition, Mitsubishi).
Experience with industrial networks (DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet, Ethernet, Ethernet/IP).
Ability to configure HMI screens and panels (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct).
Experience with VFDs (ABB, Parker, Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa, Siemens).
Robot programming experience, Fanuc preferred.
Vision system programming (Cognex, Fanuc iRVision) preferred.

Responsibilities

Design complete automation systems using AutoCAD Electrical and detailed control panel layouts.
Develop, configure, debug, and test PLC and robot programs on shop floor.
Lead and assist electrical assembly during equipment build and installation.
Lead start-up projects from commissioning through completion with internal and external teams.
Manage project time and costs to meet budgets and schedules.
Troubleshoot routine and complex equipment using structured problem-solving methods.
Wire and repair motors and perform basic electrical wiring per NEC.
Plan and execute maintenance for non-routine issues on manufacturing equipment.
Serve as main customer interface during project installations.
