The Controls Engineer 2 – Autonomous Systems Testing & Validation at Cullerton Group in Tucson, AZ, will lead the development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of autonomous software and control systems used in heavy industrial equipment. You will execute test plans, analyze data, identify root causes, and report findings to engineering teams on second shift.

The position is onsite 100% at a proving ground for 24 months with potential for permanent employment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or CS program or equivalent experience in control systems or autonomous tech.
• 2–4 years in controls engineering, vehicle testing, software validation, or related fields; internships accepted.
• Strong Windows literacy and use of computer-based diagnostic tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, or integrated control systems.
• Ability to analyze information and communicate findings to engineering teams.
• Familiarity with testing/validation procedures and technical documentation.
• Willingness to work 100% onsite in Tucson, AZ, with up to 25% travel to Peoria, IL.

Responsabilités

• Develop, update, and execute test plans and validation procedures for autonomous haul trucks, drills, and related control systems.
• Perform hands-on testing and troubleshoot autonomous machines to ensure reliable performance.
• Analyze test data, evaluate system behavior, and recommend improvements.
• Document testing activities, root-cause findings, and validation results; prepare detailed test reports.
• Collaborate with on-site operators, validation engineers, and software developers for system integration and continuous improvement.
