Job description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Controls Engineer 2. The work will be done onsite full-time in Tucson, AZ. This is a long-term 24-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $52/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

Job Summary

The Controls Engineer 2 will support the integration, testing, and validation of autonomous vehicle systems in a real-world proving ground environment. This role focuses on developing and executing test plans, troubleshooting complex vehicle and control system issues, and analyzing test results to improve autonomous system performance. The engineer will work closely with operators, software developers, and cross-functional teams to ensure reliable operation of advanced autonomous equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create, update, and execute test and development plans for autonomous vehicle testing
  • Perform on-machine testing and validation of autonomous systems and controls
  • Analyze test data and provide recommendations for performance improvements
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, and system integration issues
  • Document test results, communicate findings, and generate detailed test reports
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience in control systems, vehicle testing, engine systems, or autonomous technologies will also be considered
  • 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 1+ year with a Master’s degree
  • Experience with testing, validation, development, or integration of vehicles, machines, or control systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex technical environments
  • Proficiency with Windows-based computer systems and technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Ubuntu or Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of test planning, test documentation, and data analysis methodologies
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and system diagnostics
  • Exposure to autonomous technologies, including perception, planning, positioning, or vehicle control systems
  • Experience working with heavy equipment, mining equipment, off-highway vehicles, or similar machinery
