Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and program DCS systems and create control narratives.
• Develop deliverables such as control narratives, I/O lists, loop drawings, and diagrams.
• Lead or support DCS migrations, upgrades, and expansions.
• Perform FAT/SAT, loop checks, and commissioning/startup support.
• Interface with clients, providing guidance, progress updates, and field support.
• Ensure compliance with ISA/IEC standards and client specifications.

Job description

Genesis Technical is looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to support capital and sustaining projects for industrial clients across the Gulf Coast and Southeast.

This role is responsible for the design, configuration, programming, and commissioning of process control systems, with a primary focus on Honeywell Experion PKS DCS platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on distributed control system expertise, strong field instincts, and the ability to work directly with clients from front-end design through startup.

Must be able to sit in the Baton Rouge, LA, Mobile, AL or Birmingham, AL office.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and program Honeywell Experion PKS DCS systems, including control strategies, graphics, alarms, and interlocks.
• Develop control system deliverables such as control narratives, cause and effect diagrams, I/O lists, loop drawings, and network architecture diagrams.
• Lead or support DCS migrations, upgrades, and expansions for operating facilities.
• Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), loop checks, and commissioning and startup support.
• Integrate DCS platforms with PLCs, safety instrumented systems (SIS), HMIs, and third-party packages.
• Troubleshoot control system issues in live plant environments and recommend reliability and performance improvements.
• Collaborate with process, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to deliver fully integrated designs.
• Interface directly with clients, providing technical guidance, progress updates, and field support as needed.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications, including ISA and IEC standards.
• Support project estimates, scopes of work, and proposals as a technical subject matter expert.

Required Qualifications

• Honeywell Experion PKS DCS: hands-on configuration and programming experience with this platform is required and non-negotiable.
• Minimum of 10 years of controls engineering experience in industrial environments such as chemical, oil and gas, pulp and paper, power, or manufacturing.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience taking control systems projects from design through commissioning and startup.
• Working knowledge of instrumentation, motor controls, and industrial network communications (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, or similar).
• Ability to read and develop P&IDs, electrical schematics, and instrument installation details.
• Willingness to travel to client sites for field verification, testing, and startup support.
• Must be able to sit in the Mobile, Baton Rouge, or Birmingham office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Honeywell Safety Manager or other SIS platforms.
• PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or similar).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• Prior experience in an EPC or consulting engineering environment supporting multiple clients and industries.
• TWIC card or ability to obtain.
