Job summary

Tenneco in the United States is seeking a controls engineer to support the development, optimization, and implementation of manufacturing systems and controls to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost metrics. Qualifications

  • B.S.E.E. or M.S.E.E. degree required; related fields preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of controls experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with PLC & HMI platforms (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi) preferred.
  • Industrial robotics knowledge (Fanuc, Kuka, Yaskawa Motoman, EPSON) basic to medium.
  • Ignition/SQL databases knowledge preferred.
  • Proven PLC logic and programming experience.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Electrical knowledge and analytical ability.
  • High level of independent judgment, professionalism, and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with machine safety assessments (TMSS).
  • Lead and implement manufacturing projects to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost.
  • Provide training and prepare programming related to PLC and HMI equipment.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing lines and standard work using Lean principles.
  • Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems aligned with company control strategies.
  • Assist in developing standards and procedures related to process control for software/hardware including backups.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and integration of control systems on new and existing equipment.
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC systems and related automation technologies; develop standards for control system design.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for control applications.
  • Perform other duties; troubleshoot complex issues to support maintenance.

Collaborate across functions to design, integrate, and sustain manufacturing technologies and control systems. This role drives meaningful operational improvements through hands‑on engineering and cross‑functional project ownership.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with Machine safety assessments (TMSS).
  • Lead and implement manufacturing projects focused on improving safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance.
  • Provide training and prepare new programming related to PLC and HMI equipment.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing lines and standard work using Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems aligned with established company control strategies .
  • Assist in the development of standards and procedures related to process control for software, hardware including software back‑ups of new and existing control systems and their interfaces.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and integration of control systems on new and existing equipment .
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC systems and related automation technologies .Develop standards for control system design, configuration, and equipment integration.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including operational and maintenance procedures for control applications
  • Perform other duties as required, such as trouble shoot complex issues to support maintenance personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • B.S.E.E. or M.S.E.E. degree (Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science is preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of controls experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • PLC & HMI Platforms: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi; high level of knowledge is preferred.
  • Industrial Robotics: Fanuc, Kuka, Yaskawa Motoman, EPSON; basic to medium level of knowledge.
  • Data Base: Ignition, SQL; basic level of knowledge preferred.
  • Must have proven experience in PLC logic and programming.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Electrical knowledge and analytical ability.
  • Must possess a high level of independent judgment, professionalism and integrity.
