Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years in automation controls in an industrial operation.
• Fluent with Allen Bradley systems (SLC and Logix PLCs), PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex inverters, Kinetix servo amplifiers.
• Ability to read/update electrical schematics and troubleshoot electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, inverters, servos, robotics, network components, and computers.
• Troubleshoot controls issues and assist maintenance with broader troubleshooting.
• Make changes to control programs to improve performance or fix issues.
• Assist in startup of new equipment including IP addressing and program acquisition.
• Maintain backups and logs; report changes to the review group.
• Train mechanics for basic electrical troubleshooting and component replacements.
• Support engineering staff and assist during breakdowns and floor calls.

The controls engineer reports to the chief engineer.

Job Overview

The controls engineer supports the maintenance department by leading preventative maintenance, improvements, and repairs in automation systems and electrical controls while also assisting with department management.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Maintain automation systems including PLC's, HMI's, inverters, servos, robotics, network components, and computers.
• Troubleshooting of all controls issues as well as assisting maintenance in troubleshooting other issues using PLC's.
• Make changes to controls programs as needed to improve the system or to fix issues.
• Assist in the startup of new equipment, including IP addressing, acquiring all programs, and verifying the ability to connect and manage the new equipment.
• Maintain backups and change logs for all backups. Report any changes made to the program review group.
• Facilitate training mechanics to handle basic electrical troubleshooting and component replacements.
• Support engineering staff as needed with department management. Assist in any breakdowns and floor calls as needed.
• Must be on call off hours for trouble shooting from remote and on-site as necessary.
• Coverage for the assistant engineer and/or chief engineer in their absence.
• Must be willing and able to work different shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in automation controls in an industrial operation.
• Food manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
• Must be fluent with Allen Bradley systems including SLC and Logix PLC platforms, Panelview HMI's, PowerFlex inverters, Kinetix servo amplifiers, etc.
• Ability to read and update electrical schematics. Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems as well as wire in new components.
• An understanding of Ethernet networking is required.
• PC setup and trouble shooting abilities are needed.
• Must be very confident with office software, especially spreadsheets.
• Must poses strong leadership skills.
• Understanding of the mechanical systems is crucial to success in this role.
