Job summary

Kimmel & Associates is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting operations, strengthen internal controls, and support growth. Reporting to the President, you will lead core accounting functions and help build scalable processes for future expansion, including new locations and acquisitions.

The ideal candidate will proactively improve systems, implement better processes, and develop budgeting and forecasting capabilities as the company grows.

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years of accounting experience with supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of general accounting, financial reporting, payroll, AR/AP, and cash flow.
• ERP experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle or similar.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Analytical, organized, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Process-improvement mindset and initiative.
• Ability to work independently with executive leadership.
• Experience in industrial services or related industry preferred.
• Onsite work in Lenoir, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly/annual reporting.
• Manage weekly payroll and cash availability.
• Process vendor invoices, payments, and customer billing.
• Monitor receivables and lead collections.
• Manage company cash flow and maintain accurate records.
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure sales tax compliance and year-end filings.
• Improve accounting systems and processes for efficiency and scalability.
• Lead implementation of a purchase order system (QuickBooks or similar).
• Develop budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning frameworks.
• Build and manage the accounting team as the business grows.
• Coach staff at future locations and acquisitions.

About the Position

Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, and support the company's continued growth. Reporting directly to the President, this individual will initially lead core accounting functions while helping develop the financial systems, processes, and reporting capabilities needed to support future expansion.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys improving processes, implementing better systems, and building scalable accounting practices. As the company grows, this role will expand into budgeting, forecasting, team development, and financial support for new locations and acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly and annual financial reporting.
• Manage weekly payroll, including reviewing employee hours and vacation time and coordinating cash availability.
• Process vendor invoices, ensure timely payments, and manage customer billing and purchase order requirements.
• Monitor receivables and lead efforts to ensure timely collections.
• Manage company cash flow and maintain accurate, reliable financial records.
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with sales tax requirements and year-end tax filings.
• Improve accounting systems and processes to support efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
• Lead implementation of a purchase order system using QuickBooks or another appropriate software solution.
• Develop budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning frameworks.
• Build and manage the accounting team as the business grows, including hiring entry-level accounting staff.
• Help implement consistent financial processes and coach personnel at future locations and acquired businesses.

Requirements

• 7-10+ years of accounting experience, with supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of general accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and cash flow management.
• Experience with ERP and accounting software such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrated initiative and a process-improvement mindset.
• Ability to work independently while partnering closely with executive leadership.
• Experience in industrial services or a related industry is preferred.
• Ability to work onsite in Lenoir, North Carolina.
