The company operates a large multi-site footprint across the Southeast and is currently experiencing significant growth through both organic expansion and acquisitions.

With over 1,000 employees and a focus on continued scale, the organization offers the stability of an established business combined with the opportunities that come from a rapidly growing operation.

Position Summary

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to support accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, and process improvement initiatives across a complex, multi-location environment.

This is a newly created position offering significant visibility to executive leadership and the opportunity to play a key role in strengthening accounting processes, supporting operational growth, and helping scale the finance organization for the future.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting experience along with exposure to manufacturing, inventory, cost accounting, or distribution environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Assist with preparation and review of financial statements and management reporting.
  • Oversee general ledger accounting activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals.
  • Partner with accounting leadership to maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Manage and develop accounting staff while providing day-to-day leadership and oversight.
  • Oversee fixed assets, inventory accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and related accounting functions.
  • Analyze inventory balances, reconciliations, adjustments, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes.
  • Support cost accounting activities, including standard costing and variance analysis related to materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to investigate manufacturing variances, inventory discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Assist with ERP optimization, process improvements, and ongoing business initiatives.
  • Support acquisition integration activities and growth-related accounting projects as needed.
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close.
  • Experience working in a multi-location or operationally complex business environment.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with leadership and operations teams.
Preferred
  • CPA and/or Master's degree in Accounting.
  • Manufacturing, distribution, inventory, or cost accounting experience.
  • Experience with standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
  • ERP system experience, including Microsoft Dynamics GP, IFS Cloud, or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to high-growth organizations, acquisitions, or process improvement initiatives.
Ideal Background

  • Confident and self-directed
  • Low-ego, team-oriented contributors
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced growth environment
  • Able to take ownership while partnering effectively across the business
