Controller - Remote Growth Role in Government Contracting

Job summary

HRB, a government contractor, seeks a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations. The role offers primary remote work with occasional travel to Orlando, FL.

You will work with senior finance leadership, manage the close process, GL, AP/AR, payroll, and project accounting for a ~70-employee entity, with growth into broader finance leadership. Experience in Unanet/Costpoint and ADP payroll is highly valued; CPA progression is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience owning the full monthly and quarterly close process.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Hands-on payroll experience, preferably ADP.
• Experience with project-based or job-cost accounting, including indirect rate structures.
• Unanet experience strongly preferred.
• Strong Costpoint experience may be considered for exceptional backgrounds.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly and quarterly financial close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements.
• Own and maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and supporting schedules.
• Manage day-to-day accounting activities including AP/AR, invoicing, payments, and payroll coordination.
• Support payroll administration through ADP for a single legal entity (~70 employees).
• Manage project setup, maintenance, and closeout within the ERP system.
• Collaborate with Contracts, Procurement, PM, and Operations to reflect awards, funding, and financial records.
• Develop and monitor indirect rates, budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial analyses.
• Help implement AP automation and other accounting processes for scalability.
• Strengthen and document internal controls, policies, procedures, and reporting.
