Job summary

Mission Staffing has partnered with a leading real estate investment firm in NYC to recruit an Assistant Controller responsible for managing the accounting and reporting of real estate investments and complex joint ventures. The role leads a small accounting team and works closely with senior leadership to ensure accurate financial results and regulatory compliance.

The position focuses on closed‑end funds, with a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office).

Qualifications

• Experience leading accounting teams in real estate/investment environments.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting processes.
• Experience handling complex joint ventures and investor reporting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting and reporting of direct real estate investments and complex joint ventures.
• Manage a team of accountants and third‑party managers.
• Review closing entries for asset acquisitions, dispositions and financings.
• Collaborate with corporate accounting and performance measurement teams.
• Assist with performance metrics, budgeting, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with asset management and portfolio management teams.
• Handle investor requests and interact with clients as needed.

The role will manage a small accounting team, work closely with senior leadership, and perform all accounting, finance, and reporting functions for real estate investment portfolios. It will focus predominantly on closed end funds.

About the Role:

• Responsible for the accounting and reporting of direct real estate investments and complex joint ventures
• Manage team of accountants and of third‑party managers
• Review closing entries for asset acquisitions, dispositions and financings.
• Work with the firm’s corporate accounting and performance measurement teams
• Assist with the calculation of the firm’s performance metrics, the corporate budget, and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with internal asset management and portfolio management teams.
• Handle investor requests, interact with clients as needed
