Hemans. is seeking a high-visibility Controller to lead the accounting function across a complex, multi-entity real estate services organization in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required.
  • Active CPA credential required.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience in complex environments.
  • Public accounting background a strong fit transitioning into industry.
  • Experience in investment management/fund accounting is transferable.
  • Experience in a multi-entity organization.
  • Strong GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls knowledge.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on, collaborative environment.
  • Executive-level communication skills and strategic thinking.
  • Real estate or property management experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the accounting team while staying hands-on with day-to-day operations.
  • Own the monthly close process and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Establish, monitor, and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Partner with senior leadership and operations on financial performance and key initiatives.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for complex accounting matters.
  • Oversee treasury operations and banking relationships.
  • Coordinate with external auditors on financial reporting and compliance.
  • Drive process improvement and scale the function with technology, including AI tools.
  • Build out KPIs and metrics to improve team accountability and performance.

My client is a growing real estate services organization with a diversified residential portfolio across multiple U.S. markets. The company has seen strong growth in recent years and continues to expand its footprint.

This is a high-visibility leadership role with direct exposure to senior executives, and a real opportunity to shape the accounting function as the organization scales.

Overview

The Controller will lead the accounting function for a complex, multi-entity organization, overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, treasury, and compliance. This person will be a key partner to senior leadership and operations while helping build out the infrastructure, processes, and controls needed to support continued growth.

What You'll Be Doing
