Job description

Sanderson King is supporting a growing, venture-backed fintech seeking a Controller to build its accounting function, working directly with the CFO.

The business is modernising mortgage lending through technology. This is an opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader to establish processes, strengthen controls and introduce automation, with scope to hire a team and progress into broader finance leadership.

The role
  • Own day-to-day accounting, including AP/AR, general ledger, accruals and monthly close.
  • Manage loan-level accounting from rate lock through settlement, including funding reconciliations, warehouse facilities, gain-on-sale and investor settlements.
  • Establish accounting policies and maintain US GAAP compliance.
  • Execute and document internal controls supporting SOC 1 Type II reporting and audit readiness.
  • Lead a finance systems migration and automate manual accounting processes.
  • Produce reporting for the board and lenders, building the accounting team as the business scales.
About you
  • Typically 7–10 years’ accounting experience, including at least three years in mortgage lending accounting.
  • Recent, hands‑on mortgage accounting experience within the past three years, with depth across areas such as origination, securitisation, mortgage servicing rights and hedge accounting.
  • A track record of owning a close, audit or systems implementation from start to finish.
  • Strong operational accounting skills, technical judgement and confidence establishing processes in a growing business.
  • Interest in AI and automation, ideally with examples of reducing manual finance work.
  • Big Four experience and an active CPA licence would be advantageous.
