Job summary

Versified Company in New York is seeking a Controller to design and scale a modern finance function within a venture-backed AI company. You will own the month-end close, drive automation, and ensure robust controls as the business grows.

You will partner with Engineering and Product to implement systems and processes, linking contracts, billing, and revenue to enable fast, auditable reporting.

Qualifications

• Typically 7+ years in accounting and finance, including ownership of accounting operations in a high growth environment.
• Strong technical accounting, particularly revenue recognition, capitalisation and equity.
• A systems mindset: you design the process, implement it and still get into the detail yourself.
• Experience building finance processes from the ground up rather than just maintaining them.
• Sound commercial judgement and the ability to explain the story behind the numbers.
• Taking a finance function from manual to scalable.
• Experience managing variable technology costs.

Responsibilities

Most Controllers inherit a finance function. This one gets to design it.

Our client is a fast growing, well funded AI business in New York. Their finance function is still young, and they need a Controller to turn it into something scalable, well controlled and genuinely modern. It’s a chance to build that function inside a company where AI is part of how everyone works.

The opportunity

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you’ll own the integrity of the numbers and build the foundations for the next stage of growth. This isn’t about keeping the lights on. You’ll rethink how the close, reconciliations, spend and reporting run, using automation and AI to take manual work out of the function. Controls and audit readiness stay central throughout.

You’ll work closely with teams across the business, including Engineering and Product, so you’ll need to be as comfortable talking systems as you are talking numbers.
