Job summary

Modern Industries seeks a highly skilled Controller to oversee financial operations across manufacturing divisions, directing the Accounting Department, costing analysis, inventory valuation, ERP administration, and journal entries. You will ensure government contract compliance, accurate reporting, and strategic cost management.

The role requires CPA/CMA (preferred), 5+ years in manufacturing finance, ERP proficiency (Epicor) and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing finance or cost accounting.
• Strong knowledge of government contract compliance and reporting standards.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Open/close jobs and provide costing information; analyze profitability.
• Prepare financial statements and journal entries per standards.
• Verify standard costs and roll-up costs for accuracy.
• Coordinate year-end inventory counts and costing of inventory.
• Assist budgeting and develop financial reporting systems.
• Reconcile inventory counts to ERP stock status.
• Track fixed assets and monthly depreciation entries.
• Analyze and reconcile general ledger monthly.
• Manage cash flow, AP, AR, and payroll as needed.
• Ensure compliance with tax regs; complete NAFTA certifications and Ohio tax filings.
• Complete government census reports and supervise staff.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Controller to oversee financial operations within our manufacturing divisions, operations of the Accounting Department, and Accounting Department staff to maintain the Company’s financial health through costing analysis, inventory valuation, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) administrative support, journal entries, account reconciliations and other information as needed. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with government contracts, accurate financial reporting, and strategic cost management.

Key Responsibilities

• Open and close jobs in a timely manner and provide relevant costing information. Analyze completed jobs for efficiency and profitability.
• Preparing financial statements, including journal entries, and ensuring they meet industry standards, management requirements, and accounting principles.
• Verify standard costs for Material to last purchased cost and roll up costs, as necessary.
• Participate in the annual audit and coordinate internal reviews and external audit as well as the 401(k) audit.
• Coordinate year-end physical inventory counts, system adjustments needed, and year-end costing of inventory on hand.
• Assist with budgeting and developing financial reporting and planning systems.
• Reconcile inventory counts to ERP stock status reporting.
• Track fixed asset additions and dispositions and prepare monthly depreciation journal entries.
• Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts monthly.
• Reconcile long term debt balances to general ledger and update long term debt schedule.
• Provide additional assistance with the accounting functions such as managing cash flow, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll as needed.
• Maintain controls to ensure compliance with tax regulations. Complete and file all North American Free Trade Agreement certifications and quarterly Ohio Commercial Activity Tax as required.
• Complete and submit all required government census reports.
• Hiring, teaching and developing staff, and training them in Company procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing finance or cost accounting.
• Strong knowledge of government contract compliance and reporting standards.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities
• Experience with the General Ledger System “Epicor” is highly preferred.
