Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial activities for a manufacturing operation. This position will oversee financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and compliance while serving as a key financial partner to plant and operational leadership.
The ideal candidate brings a strong manufacturing accounting background, hands-on experience with standard costing and inventory, and the ability to translate financial information into actionable insights that improve operational and financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day accounting and financial activities, including month-end and year-end close.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Oversee cost accounting, including standard costs, inventory valuation, manufacturing variances, labor, overhead, and material costs.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes and monitor performance against established targets.
- Partner with plant and operations leadership to analyze manufacturing performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and improve profitability.
- Monitor key operational and financial metrics, including labor efficiency, material usage, scrap, inventory, productivity, and margins.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support inventory management, physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and related reconciliations.
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, capital expenditures, and working capital.
- Provide financial analysis and support for capital investments and other business initiatives.
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities as needed.
- Develop and improve accounting processes, reporting, systems, and financial controls.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance team members.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, HR, and corporate finance teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience as a Controller, Plant Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar manufacturing finance leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, standard costing, inventory accounting, and manufacturing variances.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and operational analysis.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Experience working with ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively partner with both financial and operational leadership.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial results to non-finance stakeholders.
