Job summary

#twiceasnice Recruiting is seeking a Controller for a privately owned specialty construction company near Estero, FL. You will own the accounting function across two operating entities and provide strategic financial partnership to the owner.

You'll oversee month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and a four-person team, ensuring tight controls and insightful financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience including people leadership.
• Experience managing multiple entities and/or complex accounting systems and processes.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis.
• Strong ability to analyze financial results and clearly communicate the 'why' behind the numbers to non-accounting stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own accounting across 2 primary operating companies and related holding companies.
• Lead month-end close, reconciliations, GL maintenance and financial reporting.
• Prepare and present financial results, including variance analysis and key drivers.
• Build and manage budgets and forecasts; track actuals vs. budget.
• Oversee project costing and profitability across jobs and entities.
• Improve project margin visibility and identify issues with costs and billing.
• Manage cash flow, working capital, forecasting and banking activity.
• Oversee established accounting processes and internal controls.
• Evaluate systems, processes and reporting for opportunities to improve efficiency.
• Lead the accounting team (4), ensuring accountability and timely execution.
• Coordinate with the CPA on tax compliance, reporting, lenders and insurance audits.

Our client, a privately owned specialty construction company ($15-$20M), is looking for a Controller to join their team just outside of Estero, FL. Given the specialized nature of their work, they operate in a relatively unique market with limited direct competition, providing a level of stability that can be difficult to find in the construction industry. This is more than a traditional Controller role. The owner is looking for someone who can take ownership of the financial function, help him understand what is happening in the business and serve as a true financial partner. You’ll have a lot of visibility into the business and will be expected to ask questions, dig into the numbers and clearly explain what is driving the financial results. The company has established processes and reporting in place, so this role is less about starting from scratch and more about ensuring the right things are happening, identifying opportunities to improve and ensuring the accounting function continues to run effectively. You’ll need to be comfortable being hands-on with the details while also stepping back and looking at the bigger picture.
