This fully remote role focuses on financial operations across multiple states, handling WIP reporting, subcontractor payments, retainage, and payroll complexities while guiding the accounting team and senior leadership with data-driven insights.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in construction accounting, strong Excel skills, and a proven ability to manage multiple projects remotely.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years as a Controller in commercial construction with ≥$30M annual revenue.
• Experience with WIP reporting, AP, subcontractor payments, change orders, and retainage.
• Strong managerial experience overseeing an accounting team.
• Experience handling finances for traveling employees.
• Expert Excel skills for complex data analysis.
• Experience with multi-state payroll and compliance.
• Intercompany/data-entry experience across entities.
• Strong communication to present financial data to senior leaders.
• Experience managing multiple active construction projects remotely/onsite.

Responsibilities

We are a looking to add an experienced Construction Controller to our staff. The role is brand new, as one of the current Owners handles a lot of these responsibilities currently. This will be fully remote and give you flexibility to work from home (or anywhere else). We are in need of a Controller for our construction company. This fully remote opportunity will allow the successful candidate to work from anywhere while still playing a critical role in our company's financial operations. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in construction accounting, including significant experience with WIP reporting, AP and subcontractor payment volume, and change orders. This role is pivotal in ensuring our financial operations run smoothly and efficiently, and we are looking for an individual who can meet the challenges of this role with enthusiasm, expertise, and a commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

1. Oversee and manage all construction financial operations, including WIP reporting, AP and subcontractor payment volume, and change orders.
2. Manage the accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to ensure a high level of performance and productivity.
3. Handle the complexities of multi-state payroll and compliance, ensuring all operations are in line with relevant laws and regulations.
4. Manage Retainage, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
5. Provide financial oversight for traveling employees, ensuring that all expenses are accurately tracked and reported.
6. Utilize expert Excel skills to analyze and present financial data, making recommendations for improvements where necessary.
7. Leverage commercial GC experience to provide strategic financial guidance and support to the construction team.
8. Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, providing insights and recommendations based on financial data.

Mandatory Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller within the commercial construction industry with a firm generating at least $30 million in annual revenue.
3. Proven experience with WIP reporting, AP and subcontractor payment volume, change orders, and Retainage.
4. Strong managerial skills, with a track record of effectively managing an accounting team.
5. Experience dealing with the financial needs of traveling employees.
6. Expert Excel skills, with the ability to analyze and present complex financial data.
7. Experience with multi-state payroll and compliance.
8. Intercompany and cross-company transaction/data-entry experience
9. Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial data and recommendations to senior management.
10. Experience managing accounting for multiple active construction projects simultaneously
11. Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to work effectively in a fully remote role.
