Job summary

Simple Mining LLC is seeking a hands-on Controller to own day-to-day accounting and help build a scalable finance function. You will report to the Head of Finance and drive month-end close, NetSuite implementation, and internal controls.

The ideal candidate has 9+ years of accounting experience in public and private sectors, strong US GAAP knowledge, and leadership abilities. The role offers a fully remote or hybrid setup with occasional Cedar Falls, IA office visits.

Qualifications

• Requires US GAAP expertise with end-to-end close experience.
• Experience in both public accounting and private industry is required.
• Strong knowledge of ASC 606/842 and related standards is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements.
• Own the close end to end with balance sheet reconciliations and GL accuracy.
• Lead the NetSuite implementation and own the system and chart of accounts.
• Manage external audit fieldwork and the audit process.
• Build internal controls, accounting policies and SOPs for SOX groundwork.
• Oversee revenue recognition across multiple streams (ASC 606).
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Advise on technical accounting and assist tax work.
• Supervise and mentor the accounting team.

About Simple Mining

Simple Mining is a fast-growing Bitcoin mining hosting company based in Iowa. We operate 10 sites, and most of our business comes from hosting and selling mining machines for our clients, which gives us a stable, recurring model in a fast-moving industry. We’re growing quickly and adding key leaders across the company, so there’s real room for people to grow here.

The Role

We’re hiring a hands-on Controller to own day-to-day accounting and help build a scalable finance function. You’ll report to our Head of Finance and work closely with him. Your first priorities will be leading the month-end close, shortening close, and helping roll out our NetSuite implementation, which goes live January 2027. This is a build-and-improve role, not a maintain-the-status-quo role.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual GAAP financial statements
• Own the close end to end, including balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger accuracy
• Help lead the NetSuite implementation, then own the system and chart of accounts
• Manage external audit fieldwork and the audit process
• Build and maintain internal controls, accounting policies and SOPs, laying the groundwork for SOX
• Oversee revenue recognition (ASC 606) and billing across multiple revenue streams
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
• Advise on technical accounting (ASC 718, 842, 805/850 and IRC 409A) and support tax work
• Supervise and mentor the accounting team (AP, AR and payroll)

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 9+ years of accounting experience that includes both public accounting and private industry
• Strong US GAAP knowledge, and experience personally running a full close from start to finish

Nice to Have

• CPA
• SEC or public company experience
• Experience with a NetSuite implementation
• Digital asset or Bitcoin industry exposure, or a real interest in getting into the space
• Experience leading or mentoring a team

Location

This is a fully remote or hybrid role with 1–2 days a week in our Cedar Falls, IA office. We prefer candidates who live within commuting distance, but we’ll consider fully remote candidates for the right fit.
