Job summary

Hallway Hiring, LLC is seeking a hands-on Controller to manage the financial operations of a multi-store business in Tallahassee. You will oversee day-to-day accounting, payroll, tax compliance, budgeting, cash flow planning and store-level financial strategy.

This role reports to the CEO as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and requires a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance/Business, 5+ years of experience, and proficiency with QuickBooks Online. Travel quarterly is expected.

• Five (5)+ years of relevant professional work experience.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
• CPA preferred.
• Willingness to travel at minimum once a quarter.

Responsibilities

• Close month with journal entries for A/R, fixed assets, depreciation, inventory, payroll accruals.
• Class transactions across multiple store locations.
• Produce monthly financial statements and budgets, cash flow, and analytics.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Controller to manage the financial operations of our multi-store business. You'll oversee day-to-day accounting, payroll, and tax compliance, and you'll lead budgeting, cash flow planning, and store-level financial strategy.

Responsibilities

Accounting & Reporting

• Reconcile bank, credit card (including PCard), and balance sheet accounts monthly
• Complete a hard month-end close, including journal entries for A/R, fixed assets, depreciation, inventory, sales accruals, and payroll accruals
• Class transactions across multiple store locations
• Produce monthly financial statements and review them with leadership, along with budgets, cash flow, and other analytics

Payables, Payroll & Tax

• Process accounts payable on a set schedule (ACH, bill pay, and checks from QuickBooks Online)
• Run payroll each pay period in QuickBooks Online, submit EFTPS payments by pay date, and file quarterly and annual payroll and state unemployment returns
• Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns, including calculating tax by jurisdiction

Planning & Analysis

• Lead annual budgeting and planning for all stores
• Build and maintain cash flow analysis based on cash on hand and projected purchases
• Contribute to Open to Buy development, tracking, and measurement

Vendor, Legal & Compliance

• Serve as the main contact for banks and for insurance administration and negotiations
• Hire and oversee an outside accounting firm for monthly and annual audits and backup support
• Negotiate and manage leases and handle licensing and other legal matters

Leadership

• Visit every store at least once a quarter to maintain a strong leadership presence

Qualifications

• Five (5)+ years of accounting or finance experience, ideally in retail or multi-location businesses
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online
• Working knowledge of payroll, sales and use tax, and month-end close processes
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
• CPA preferred
• Willingness to travel at minimum once a quarter
