Job summary

New York Ag Connection seeks a proactive Controller with 3+ years in a fast-moving retail food setting to act as a strategic business partner. You will work closely with leadership, contribute to accounting and IT teams, and bring strong analytics, organization, and communication to the role.

This is a hands-on, in-person opportunity with growth potential. The position requires a Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred) and a track record of delivering accurate financial reporting,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree a plus.
• CPA is preferred.
• Minimum of three years of accounting experience at Controller/Finance Manager level.
• Retail or food industry experience is highly preferred.
• Excellent analytic, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and IT coordination; partner with leadership.
• Oversee treasury management and accounts payable supervision.
• Manage IT dept including e-commerce; oversee office staff.
• Prepare and oversee monthly closings, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting and liaise with CPA.

Controller

Great opportunity for a proactive Controller with at least 3 years of experience in a fast-moving retail food environment to be a strategic business partner and support an already successful operation. The Controller will be a hands-on, detail-oriented professional who will work closely with leadership and contribute to the accounting and IT teams and can bring excellent analytic, organization, and communication skills. Must have ambition and a strong desire to grow your career.

Operational Responsibilities

• Seek opportunities to enhance processes and procedures to improve efficiency.
• Enhance the accounting department’s use of relevant software.
• Supervise and work closely with the accounts payable and accounting team.
• Responsible for treasury management.
• Manage IT dept including e-commerce.
• Responsible for negotiating contracts and insurance renewal.
• Oversee Office staff.

Financial Reporting Responsibilities

• Responsible for the accuracy of all financial reports.
• Responsible for timely, accurate and efficient monthly closing and year end processes.
• Responsible for working closely with the company CPA.
• Preparation of cash flow projections.
• Preparation of monthly and year-to-date actual cash flows.
• Preparation and completion of the annual budget process and development of updated forecasts to provide an accurate projection of financial performance.
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial management reporting packages including variance analysis.
• Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time including ad-hoc reporting and analysis.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree a plus.
• CPA is preferred.
• Minimum of three years of accounting experience, with prior Controller, Assistant Controller, Finance Manager or Accounting Manager level responsibility required.
• Experience in the retail food industry is highly preferred.
