Job summary

Controller

Location: South Hackensack, NJ

Employment Type: Full-Time

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead all accounting and finance functions for a lower middle‑market company serving the entertainment industry. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for financial reporting, cash management, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls, while partnering closely with ownership and department leaders to support strategic decision‑making.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory, commissions, and cash management
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements, KPI reports, and variance analysis to ownership and lenders
  • Manage cash forecasting, revolver borrowing, and lender reporting requirements
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and expense control in partnership with Sales and Operations
  • Oversee year‑end financial review with external CPA firm and support lender field exams
  • Manage tax compliance, filings, payments, and coordination with CPAs
  • Maintain strong internal controls to protect assets, ensure accuracy, and prevent fraud
  • Oversee payroll processing, HR coordination, benefits administration, and commission plans
  • Support department leaders with financial insights, reporting, and operational understanding
  • Play a key role in future ERP system implementation and systems improvement initiatives
Qualifications
  • 5–10 years of experience in accounting or finance leadership
  • MBA in Accounting or Finance and/or CPA preferred
  • Experience in product, manufacturing, rental, or distribution environments
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work closely with ownership and be deeply involved in day‑to‑day operations
