Job description

Controller

$90000 - $110000 per year | Sedro-Woolley, WA | On-site | Permanent

Join a growing, established organization in a high-visibility, high-impact role!
A bit about us:

We are a growing aerospace manufacturing organization serving the aviation industry with a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and customer service. As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Controller to join the executive leadership team and help guide the company through its next stage of growth.

This is an opportunity to join an organization where Finance plays a meaningful role in business strategy—not simply reporting historical results. The Controller will have significant visibility with senior leadership and will help shape financial strategy, operational performance, budgeting, cost management, and long-term planning.

Why join us?
Make a Meaningful Impact

This isn't a Controller role focused solely on closing the books. You'll have a direct seat at the leadership table and the opportunity to influence financial and operational decisions across the organization.

Executive-Level Visibility

You'll work closely with the President and executive management team, providing financial insight that directly contributes to company strategy and growth.

Broad Scope of Responsibility

The role offers exposure across Finance, Accounting, Cost Accounting, HR, IT, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and strategic planning.

Growing Organization

Join an organization experiencing meaningful growth where your work can directly impact processes, profitability, operational performance, and long-term success.

Hands-On Leadership

If you enjoy being more than a back-office finance leader, this role offers the opportunity to get involved, solve problems, improve processes, and work directly with teams throughout the business.

Job Details

A growing aerospace manufacturing company in the Burlington area is adding a Controller to its leadership team. This is a newly important role within the organization as the business continues to expand and improve its financial and operational infrastructure.

The Controller will work closely with the President and senior leadership, providing the financial visibility needed to make informed business decisions. This person will have ownership over the accounting function while also contributing to budgeting, cost management, forecasting, process improvement, and broader business strategy.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on and wants to be more than a back-office accounting leader. You'll have the opportunity to understand how the business operates, identify what's working and what isn't, and help leadership make decisions based on the numbers.

What You'll Be Doing
Financial Management
  • Take ownership of the company's accounting and financial reporting functions.
  • Lead monthly and year-end close and ensure leadership has accurate financial information.
  • Build and manage budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Track financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop meaningful financial and operational metrics for leadership.
Manufacturing Finance
  • Partner with operations to understand manufacturing costs and profitability.
  • Oversee product and project costing, including absorption accounting.
  • Review material, labor, inventory, and overhead costs.
  • Analyze differences between expected and actual costs.
  • Help leadership understand the financial impact of changes in production, materials, products, and processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost controls and overall financial performance.
Accounting & Compliance
  • Maintain strong accounting processes, policies, and internal controls.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and support the annual audit.
  • Oversee tax, insurance, treasury, and other financial administration.
  • Evaluate and improve financial systems and processes.
  • Ensure the organization maintains accurate and reliable financial data.
Business Partnership
  • Serve as a trusted financial resource to the President and leadership team.
  • Provide analysis that supports growth, investment, staffing, and operational decisions.
  • Participate in company-wide planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, HR, and IT.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting and administrative team members.
What We're Looking For

We're interested in speaking with finance leaders who have a strong combination of accounting expertise, manufacturing experience, and business judgment.

You'll ideally bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of accounting/finance leadership experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Aerospace, aviation, aircraft, defense, or similar industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting and manufacturing finance.
  • Experience with standard costing, absorption accounting, inventory, and variance analysis.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience.
  • Strong financial reporting and analytical capabilities.
  • Experience working with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both executives and operational teams.
  • CPA is a plus, but not required.
The Type of Leader They Need

This company is looking for someone who can own the numbers while understanding the business behind them.

You should be comfortable:
  • Bringing problems to leadership before they become bigger issues.
  • Having candid conversations about financial performance.
  • Making decisions with incomplete information when necessary.
  • Digging into the details when something doesn't look right.
  • Explaining financial information to non-financial leaders.
  • Challenging existing processes when there's a better way.
  • Moving between strategic planning and hands-on accounting work.
  • Building relationships across the organization.
  • Helping develop and mentor the people around you.
