Job summary

StevenDouglas and a privately held construction company seek a Controller to join on-site in Texas, reporting to the VP and leading the accounting team. The role focuses on controlling costs, WIP, billing, margins and payroll while delivering timely, actionable financial results for construction projects.

You will partner with Project Managers and Operations to connect field activity with financial outcomes, drive profitability analysis, and provide accurate reports for decision making.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Controller experience in the Construction industry.
• Experience with job costing, WIP, revenue recognition and margins in construction.
• Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling, reporting and dashboards.
• Ability to work with Project Managers and Operations to connect field activity with financial results.
• Strong understanding of labor productivity, earned vs. burned, cost to complete, and job profitability analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead the accounting department and report to the VP.
• Oversee job costs, WIP, billing, margins, certified payroll, and reporting.
• Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and actionable financial information for operations.
• Collaborate with PMs and field leadership to optimize profitability.

StevenDouglas has partnered with an exceptional, privately held company for their Controller search. This role is on-site, 5 days per week.

Reporting to the VP, the Controller will lead the accounting department and serve as the financial backbone of this Company's construction operations. This role will ensure that job costs, WIP, billing, margins, certified payroll, and reporting are accurate, timely, and actionable.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of Controller experience in the Construction industry space
• Proven experience in job costing, cost control, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and margin tracking in a construction environment
• Advanced Excel skills — financial modeling, reporting, dashboards
• Proven ability to work directly with Project Managers and Operations teams to connect field activity with financial results
• Strong understanding of labor productivity, earned vs. burned, cost to complete, and job profitability analysis
