We are partnering with a well-established, mid-market construction firm in Southern California to identify a Controller to lead accounting operations and support continued growth.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role within a lean finance organization, working closely with executive leadership and operational teams.
The Opportunity
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting function for a multi-project construction environment with a strong and active backlog. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being embedded in the business and partnering directly with operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee the monthly close and financial reporting process
- Manage job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion reporting
- Ensure accurate project margin tracking and cost controls
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and backlog visibility
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting processes
- Lead and develop a small accounting team
- Partner closely with project managers and operations leadership
What We’re Looking For
Required experience:
- Prior Controller or senior accounting experience within construction or project-based environments
- Deep knowledge of job costing, WIP, and POC accounting
- Experience working in lean accounting teams with hands-on responsibility
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial data to non-finance partners
Preferred experience:
- Multi-entity or multi-division environments
- Experience supporting growing or evolving organizations
- On-site role (5 days/week)
