Job summary

Waterstone Human Capital is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function for a global consumer brand. The role reports to the CFO and owns the close, consolidations, and internal controls in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.

Qualified candidates will have a CPA, Big 4 background, 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, and strong GAAP knowledge. Expect multi-currency reporting, ERP/Power BI/Excel proficiency, and collaboration with senior leadership.

Qualifications

• CPA is required and Big 4 experience strongly preferred.
• International/multi-currency accounting experience with consolidations.
• Background in consumer goods or fast-paced product-driven industry.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience including people management.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and ability to research complex standards.
• Proven ownership of the full close cycle in a growing company.
• Proficiency with ERP systems, Power BI, Excel, and AI tools.
• Ability to partner with senior leadership and drive cross-functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with GAAP compliance.
• Manage consolidated financial reporting across international entities and currencies.
• Lead technical accounting research and apply complex standards.
• Oversee AP/AR/GL/Payroll and related controls.
• Partner with FP&A, tax, and treasury on finance initiatives.
• Manage external audits and ensure clean annual audits.
• Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team.
• Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls.
• Support system implementations, M&A diligence, and integration work.

The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established, global consumer products company, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead their accounting function. This is a high-visibility role for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced, product-driven environment and is ready to bring rigor, structure, and international accounting expertise to a growing organization. This position is fully onsite and reports directly to the CFO.

What You'll Do

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP
• Manage consolidated financial reporting across international entities and multiple currencies
• Lead technical accounting research and ensure proper application of accounting standards
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions
• Partner with FP&A, tax, and treasury to support broader finance initiatives
• Manage external audit relationships and ensure clean, efficient annual audits
• Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
• Drive process improvements and strengthen internal controls across the organization
• Support ad hoc projects including system implementations, M&A due diligence, and integration work as needed

What You Bring

• CPA required
• Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred
• International/multi-currency accounting experience — consolidations, foreign subsidiaries, or global operations
• Background in consumer goods, retail, or a similarly fast-paced, product-driven industry
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including people management
• Strong technical accounting knowledge (GAAP) and demonstrated ability to research and apply complex standards
• Proven experience owning the full close cycle in a company of meaningful scale
• Strong proficiency in ERP systems, Power BI, Excel, and AI tools
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment with shifting priorities
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner cross-functionally with senior leadership
