Jobot in Portland, OR is seeking a Controller to oversee all accounting activities, financial reporting, and compliance. You will ensure GAAP adherence, manage internal controls, coordinate audits, and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual statements to senior leadership.

The role collaborates with program VPs on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, supporting the CFO with board-related matters and grant budget alignment. This is an on-site, permanent role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance is required.
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience; 6+ preferred.
• Final responsibility for the quality and content of financial data, reporting, and audit coordination.
• Ability to translate financial concepts to non-finance colleagues.
• Experience with grants management and compliance reporting.
• Tech-savvy with software installations and vendor relationships.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
3. Coordinate all audit activity.
4. Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the organization's financial status.
5. Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
6. Support the CFO in engaging the board's audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
7. Oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period.
8. Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program vice presidents; continuously collaborate with program vice presidents to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
9. Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance required; a CPA or related qualification is a plus.
2. Minimum of 5 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of broad financial and operations management experience.
3. The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area.
4. Ability to translate financial concepts to - and to effectively collaborate with -- programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
5. A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants is essential.
6. Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
7. A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
8. Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
9. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the company.
10. Must have experience with the following skillset or equivalent: Manufacturing Accounting, Financials, Fixed Assets, Annual Budget, Cost Accounting, Financial Statements.
