Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller with a strong background in Real Estate accounting and Family Office operations. This individual will oversee all financial, accounting, and reporting activities for a diverse portfolio of real estate assets, private investments, and high-net-worth family entities.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a boutique, fast-paced environment, possessing the technical expertise to manage complex entity structures alongside the discretion and communication skills required for family office dynamics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), payroll, and general ledger management for multiple corporate and family-owned entities.
  • Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Manage complex intercompany transactions, fund flows, and capital account reconciliations across a multi-tiered entity structure.
  • Implement, maintain, and monitor robust internal financial controls and accounting policies.
  • Manage property-level accounting for a portfolio of real estate assets (residential, commercial, or development projects).
  • Oversee construction draw processes, capital expenditure (CapEx) tracking, and property management financial integrations.
  • Analyze cash flows at both the individual asset level and the consolidated portfolio level to optimize liquidity.
  • Coordinate with joint venture partners and third-party property managers on financial reporting and distributions.
Family Office & Wealth Services
  • Provide comprehensive financial reporting for family members, including net worth statements, investment performance summaries, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Coordinate closely with external CPA firms, tax advisors, and legal counsel on tax planning, annual tax return preparation, and wealth transfer strategies.
  • Oversee financial oversight for personal high-net-worth assets, which may include luxury properties, aviation, marine, or lifestyle expenses.
  • Assist in evaluating and onboarding new private equity, venture capital, or direct real estate investment opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a mandatory minimum of 3–5 years combining real estate accounting and family office (or high-net-worth individual) management.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CFA designation is highly preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of specialized real estate and family office software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, QuickBooks, or specialized wealth aggregation platforms like Addepar/Arch). Elite Excel skills are required.
  • Tax & Structure Knowledge: Strong familiarity with partnership accounting, LLC structures, trusts, and pass-through taxation rules.
  • Soft Skills: Absolute discretion and integrity; exceptional organizational skills; capability to shift seamlessly from high-level financial strategy to hands-on execution.
  • Competitive base salary with performance-based bonus potential.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) match and generous paid time off.
  • Professional development and continuing education support.
