Job summary

The role manages core accounting functions, billing and collections, banking relationships, and financial systems while supporting strategic and operational objectives. Hybrid work: 3 days in office, 2 remote, with leadership collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Accounting/Finance or related field.
  • 7–10+ years progressive accounting/finance experience.
  • Experience in a professional services environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, billing, trust accounting, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, and financial reporting.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Analyze financial performance and advise firm leadership.
  • Ensure trust accounting compliance and reconcile trust accounts.
  • Supervise billing, prebills, invoicing, and collections.
  • Develop accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Location: Hybrid | 3 Days in Office, 2 Days Remote

Position Summary

Our client is a rapidly growing, nationally recognized professional services company seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the firm's financial operations and ensure the integrity of financial reporting, accounting compliance, and internal controls.

This role will manage core accounting functions, trust accounting compliance, billing and collections, banking relationships, and financial systems while supporting the firm's strategic and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to firm leadership
Trust Accounting & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with trust accounting requirements
  • Oversee reconciliation of all trust accounts
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements
Billing & Collections
  • Supervise billing processes, including prebills, invoicing, and collections
  • Monitor realization, utilization, and accounts receivable performance
  • Work closely with all involved areas to improve billing efficiency and collections
Leadership & Management
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff
  • Develop and maintain internal accounting policies and procedures
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls
Banking & Treasury
  • Manage and maintain banking relationships
  • Complete and oversee monthly bank reconciliations
  • Support effective cash and treasury management
Technology & Process Improvement
  • Maintain financial systems, accounting software, and reporting tools
  • Partner with IT on financial system implementations and upgrades
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation and financial reporting processes
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Prior experience in a professional services environment strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, billing, trust accounting, and financial reporting
  • Experience with billing systems and related platforms
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
  • Experience preparing executive-level financial presentations
