Job summary

Talently is assisting a private real estate investment group in finding a Senior Controller who will own the accounting function and lead a distributed team. This hands-on role requires setting the standard, closing the books, and ensuring accurate monthly statements for ownership.

You will partner with ownership to translate numbers into strategic decisions, build scalable internal controls, and manage external auditors, tax advisors, and banking relationships.

Qualifications

• Senior Controller or Director of Accounting with real estate accounting experience, must understand multifamily from an investment standpoint.
• QuickBooks Online, active and current, this is the primary system used.
• Experience managing a distributed or offshore accounting team of 2 or more direct reports, hands-on day to day.

Responsibilities

• Own the full close cycle across multiple entities and deliver accurate financial statements to ownership on time every month
• Lead and manage a distributed accounting team including offshore staff, setting expectations and holding people accountable
• Serve as the direct financial partner to ownership, turning numbers into decisions that move the business forward
• Build and maintain internal controls that actually scale as the portfolio and entity count grows
• Manage all third-party relationships including auditors, tax advisors, and banking contacts
• Drive cash flow visibility and oversee treasury functions across a complex and expanding portfolio
• Review, improve, and modify financial statements produced by your team before they reach leadership
• Oversee financial reporting across multiple investment entities and asset classes

About the Opportunity

My client, one of the most entrepreneurial and fast-moving private investment companies in the real estate space, is looking to hire a Senior Controller.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you own the accounting function, lead a distributed team, and report directly to ownership. You are not a number two here, you are the person who sets the standard, closes the books, and keeps everything running clean.

If you have built or stabilized an accounting function inside a real estate company and you know how to lead a lean team without layers between you and the work, this role was written for you.
