Job summary

Mountain States Property Management is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting operations for 50+ entities and 80+ employees. You will lead a small team, ensure timely financial reporting to the VP of Finance, and manage payroll, loan compliance, and GAAP adherence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with supervisory exposure.
  • Real estate or property management experience preferred (Entrata).
  • Experience with payroll systems and payroll tax compliance.
  • Experience with loan compliance and covenant reporting.
  • Comfortable using AI tools to improve accounting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, and month-end close.
  • Manage, mentor, and delegate to a small accounting team (2–3 people).
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to VP of Finance.
  • Oversee payroll auditing, approvals, billing, and tax compliance.
  • Monitor loan covenants and ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls.
  • Support budgeting/forecasting with the VP of Finance.

Job Title: ControllerJob Type: Full TimeReports to: VP of FinanceLocation: 95 W 100 S #340, LoganJob SummaryThe Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting for a group of 50+ entities and 80+ employees. This role manages a team of two-to-three (one part-time team member), distributing and overseeing daily accounting tasks, while reporting directly to the VP of Finance on financial performance, reporting, and strategic initiatives. The Controller oversees payroll processes — including payroll tax compliance — and loan compliance, and is expected to bring a modern, efficient approach to accounting operations, including the use of AI tools to build and improve systems and processes.We're a locally owned property management company bringing excellence to multifamily communities across the region.
