Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for leading the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, and technical accounting functions. This role will oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensure accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, and serve as a key business partner to Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Executive Leadership.


Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for leading the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, and technical accounting functions. This role will oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensure accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, and serve as a key business partner to Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Executive Leadership. This position requires a hands‑on finance leader with strong manufacturing and inventory accounting experience, including standard costing, overhead absorption, material burden rates, inventory valuation, variance analysis, capital assets, revenue recognition, and technical accounting research. The Controller will play a critical role in improving financial processes, strengthening controls, supporting audits, and providing actionable insights into product margins, manufacturing costs, inventory performance, and operational profitability.


Essential Functions


  • Manage and review timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and management reporting.

  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.

  • Analyze departmental and company-wide P&L results compared to budget, forecast, prior year, and operating plans.

  • Prepare financial reporting packages and accompanying analysis for senior management, executive leadership, Board of Directors, auditors, and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency, compliance, and scalability.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Own and manage the company’s cost accounting function, including standard costing, actual costing analysis, inventory valuation, product costing, and manufacturing variance analysis.

  • Maintain and review standard costs, labor rates, overhead rates, material burden rates, and manufacturing cost assumptions.

  • Analyze and report manufacturing variances, including purchase price variance, material usage variance, labor efficiency variance, overhead absorption, production volume variance, and inventory revaluation impacts.

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Engineering to understand cost drivers, production performance, inventory movements, and margin trends.

  • Support product margin analysis, project profitability analysis, cost reduction initiatives, and operational KPI reporting.

  • Review inventory reserves, excess and obsolete inventory calculations, slow-moving inventory analysis, and lower-of-cost-or-market considerations.

  • Ensure accurate accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, spare parts, service inventory, and project-based inventory, as applicable.

  • Support periodic cycle counts, annual physical inventories, and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.

  • Coordinate with operations teams to improve inventory accuracy, transaction discipline, and cost reporting.

  • Provide financial support for make-versus-buy decisions, capital investment analysis, production efficiency initiatives, and manufacturing process improvements.

  • Develop reporting that provides visibility into manufacturing costs, absorption, inventory turns, gross margin, and operational performance.

  • Serve as a technical accounting resource for complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, inventory accounting, leases, capitalized costs, impairments, consolidation, foreign currency, and other applicable accounting areas.

  • Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls over financial reporting, accounting operations, inventory, cost accounting, cash, fixed assets, revenue recognition, and financial systems.

  • Lead or support development of the Annual Operating Plan, capital budget, and periodic forecasts.

  • Provide monthly variance analysis for revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, inventory, manufacturing costs, and capital spending.

  • Manage monthly consolidation and reporting of foreign entities, subsidiaries, or affiliated companies, as applicable.

  • Review intercompany transactions and monthly intercompany reconciliations.

  • Ensure proper accounting for foreign currency transactions, translation adjustments, and intercompany balances.

  • Support finance and accounting activities related to global expansion, international operations, or new entity setup.

  • Maintain fixed asset and intangible asset schedules, including additions, disposals, depreciation, amortization, and roll forward files.

  • Support federal, state, local, and international tax filings, census reporting, and other required compliance activities.

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors to support income tax, sales and use tax, property tax, and other tax-related matters.


Education, Training, And Experience


  • BS in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration required; MBA preferred or equivalent working experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Finance/Accounting

  • 2+ years cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. Preferably Medical Device industry

  • Strong business acumen, interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills

  • Ability to influence cross-functional team members

  • Proven experience and ability to use AI tools to improve processes and production.

  • Motivated self‑starter who can effectively work under pressure and manage multiple priorities

  • Possesses the ability to lead cross‑functional teams and effectively work through others

  • Team player who manages collaboratively with the ability to influence management, in some cases without authority

  • Exhibits strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills

  • Medical device manufacturing experience preferred

  • Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time.

  • Required use of standard office equipment including laptop, phone, copier, etc.

  • Typical office environment.

  • Must be able to walk through the factory environment safely.
