Job summary

Scorpio is seeking a Controller to lead financial operations, strengthen internal controls, and support strategic decision-making as we scale. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee job costing, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting while partnering closely with project managers and executives.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, 10+ years of accounting experience (3+ in construction), and proficiency with Sage Intacct

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is required.
• 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in construction.
• Experience with revenues of $200 million or more.
• Strong knowledge of construction costing, WIP, and labor burdens.

Responsibilities

• Refine internal control frameworks and ensure proper data accumulation.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and reporting with WIP, regional projections, and milestones.
• Analyze balance sheet and take timely corrective action.
• Establish A/R quality, prompt collections, and minimize unbilled costs.
• Drive accurate time reporting for project forecasting and payroll.
• Conduct financial due diligence to identify and mitigate risks.
• Support career development and coach team members.

We are seeking a Controller to lead financial operations, strengthen internal controls, and support strategic decision-making as we scale. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee job costing, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting while providing financial leadership and partnering closely with project managers and executives.

What You Will Do

• Refine internal control frameworks, ensuring appropriate segregation of duties, invoice approval workflows, and accurate accumulation of financial data.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and reporting while partnering with operations to ensure accuracy across WIP schedules, regional projections, and project milestones
• Ensure balance sheet accounts are properly analyzed each month and that timely corrective action is taken when required.
• Establish and maintain A/R quality standards, focusing on prompt collections, zero delinquent receivables, and minimal unbilled costs.
• Drive timely, accurate time reporting to support precise project forecasting, payroll processing, and labor burden allocations.
• Conduct financial due diligence to proactively identify, report, and mitigate operational risks
• Translate organizational strategy, ensuring team members understand their role in achieving broader company goals.
• Manage work independently while supporting the career development and coaching of team members.

What You Will Bring To Scorpio

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in construction
• Experience working with revenues of $200 million or more.
• Strong understanding of construction job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and labor rates, including labor burdens and cost allocations.
• Proficiency with Sage Intacct or similar construction accounting software.
