Job summary

CivicMinds, Inc is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial functions within a construction services context. This role reports to the President and sits on the executive management team.

The Controller will oversee budgeting, audit coordination, and strategic planning, partnering with project managers and operations to ensure accurate job costing and financial reporting. Strong leadership and GAAP expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; Master’s preferred.
• CPA strongly preferred; 5+ years of accounting experience, including construction/job-cost accounting.
• Proven construction accounting and administration experience; GAAP and financial reporting expertise.
• Expert-level Timberline/Sage 300 and Procore proficiency; ability to lead audits.

Job description

A leading construction services organization serving commercial construction, including hospitality, retail, multifamily, and corporate projects, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial functions. The Controller will report to the President and serve as a key member of the Executive Management team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead accounting, financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and GAAP compliance.
• Oversee monthly close, financial statements, consolidations, cash flow, banking, credit facilities, AP/AR, and tax coordination.
• Manage job costing, WIP schedules, project billing, collections, and project financial reporting in partnership with Project Managers.
• Reconcile job-cost reports and oversee Timberline/Sage 300 processes.
• Lead financial, project, insurance, and tax audits.
• Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and financial procedures.
• Oversee payroll, employee benefits, insurance, risk management, and 401(k) compliance.
• Manage relationships with CPA firms, banks, surety providers, insurance carriers, IT providers, legal teams, and other external partners.
• Oversee IT infrastructure, software systems, and Timberline/Sage 300 and Procore support.
• Participate in strategic planning, business continuity, project risk assessment, and executive/board meetings.
• Lead, develop, and manage the accounting/finance team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; Master’s preferred.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including construction/job-cost accounting.
• Proven construction accounting and construction administration experience.
• Expert-level Timberline/Sage 300 and Procore proficiency.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, job costing, WIP, and project accounting.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, leadership, and follow-up skills.
• Ability to work effectively with executive leadership, Project Managers, and Operations teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
