Job summary

The ideal candidate brings CPA credentials, 5+ years in progressive accounting roles, GAAP knowledge, and experience with payroll, AP/AR, and tax processes.

Qualifications

• CPA required with leadership experience in accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.
• 5+ years progressive accounting experience, preferably as Controller/Accounting Manager.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with payroll, AP/AR, and month-end close.
• Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the sole accounting professional for two business units with end-to-end ownership.
• Lead the monthly close and prepare financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end entries (depre., amort., loans).
• Manage accounts receivable, collections, billing imports, and reconciliations.
• Oversee accounts payable, vendor payments, and recurring expenses.
• Process weekly payroll and ensure accuracy/compliance.
• Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain records and support year-end audits.
• Develop and improve accounting processes and internal controls.
• Provide financial reporting and strategic insights to ownership.

As the sole accounting leader, this individual will oversee all accounting and financial operations while partnering closely with ownership to provide financial insight, improve processes, and support strategic business decisions.

Reports: No Direct Reports. Reports to President

• Serve as the sole accounting professional for two business units, managing the full accounting cycle with a high level of ownership and accountability.
• Lead the monthly close process and prepare accurate financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain the general ledger, account reconciliations, and all month-end journal entries, including depreciation, amortization, and loan activity.
• Manage all accounts receivable functions, including collections, payment application, billing imports, and account reconciliations.
• Manage accounts payable, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and recurring expenses.
• Process weekly payroll and ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.
• Maintain accurate financial records and support year-end audits.
• Develop and improve accounting processes and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Partner with ownership by providing financial reporting, operational insights, and recommendations that support business growth.

Qualifications

• CPA
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a Controller or Accounting Manager role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
• Experience processing payroll and managing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in transportation, logistics, or a related industry.
• Experience with billing imports from third-party operational software.
• Knowledge of multi-jurisdiction sales tax compliance.
• Experience with ACH, lockbox processing, and electronic payment systems.
