Job summary

Hixen Search Group has been engaged by a reputable, growing family-owned manufacturing/service business to lead accounting and reporting as Controller. This role reports to the President and sits on the leadership team, closely aligned with operations to drive financial impact.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of accounting, manufacturing or project accounting experience, and strong skills in financial statements, month-end close, and budgeting.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of accounting experience in small to mid-size companies.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience in manufacturing or project accounting.
• Strong experience with financial statements and month-end close.
• Cash management experience.
• Leadership of a small accounting team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting.
• Perform month-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Oversee GL, AP, AR, cash management and project costing.
• Maintain inventory system and assist with pricing.
• Oversee payroll with ADP and manage benefits/on-boarding.
• Lead budgeting, variance analysis, and forecasting.
• Collaborate with operations and leadership; participate in leadership team.
• Manage a staff accountant.
• Coordinate with banks, outside CPA, and vendors.
• Develop financial dashboard reports.

Job description

Hixen Search Group has been exclusively engaged by a company to lead a Controller search. The company: a reputable, growing, and stable family-owned manufacturing/service business, is searching for someone to lead accounting and reporting for the company. The Controller will report to the President and serve as an integral member of the leadership team. The role is very interactive with operations and has the opportunity to really make an impact in the business.

Responsibilities:

• Monthly financial statement preparation and management reporting
• Month-end close work including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
• Oversee all accounting including: the GL, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, cash management and project costing
• Maintain the inventory system and assist with pricing
• Oversee payroll utilizing ADP, benefits management, and assist with on-boarding new employees in the system
• Manage an accounting team of 1 staff accountant
• Plans and coordinates with banks, outside CPA firm, and other vendors
• Lead the budgeting process
• Perform variance analysis and forecasting as needed
• Serve on the leadership team and work closely with the owners and other executives
• Ad-hoc projects such as creating a financial dashboard report

Desired Candidate Profile:

• 10+ years of accounting experience; must have some experience in a small to medium sized company
• Bachelors in Accounting or Finance
• Experience in the manufacturing industry or with project accounting a must
• Strong experience with financial statements and month-end close
• Previous experience with cash management
