Job summary

Opti Staffing is partnering with a Tigard-based manufacturing company to hire an experienced Controller who will own the accounting and finance function. You will drive financial strategy, oversee a small accounting team, and partner with senior leadership to improve margins and operations.

This hands-on role requires manufacturing costing expertise, advanced QuickBooks and ERP/MRP experience, and a forward-thinking approach to controls and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Experience at Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or Controller level.
• Manufacturing accounting experience is required.
• Strong understanding of inventory and manufacturing accounting.
• Experience with job costing, standard costing, margin analysis, and financial modeling.
• Strong month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close experience.
• Advanced QuickBooks experience.
• Strong ERP/MRP systems experience.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
• Experience with cash flow management, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting staff.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and year end accounting and close processes.
• Oversee AP, AR, general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Prepare and present income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reporting, and other financial reports.
• Monitor cash flow and develop forecasts to support operations and strategy.
• Develop and improve standard costing, job costing, and activity based costing methods.
• Analyze manufacturing costs to understand true production costs.
• Perform pricing and margin analysis across products and projects.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities for profitability.
• Build financial models, forecasts, and scenario analyses for growth.
• Collaborate with leadership on financial strategy and controls.
• Lead and develop the accounting team; improve reporting and automation.

Controller Location: Tigard, OR Pay: $105K+ DOE Schedule: Monday through Friday, Flexible fulltime IN OFFICE ONLY

Who We Are

We are partnering with an established manufacturing company in Tigard that is looking for an experienced Controller to take ownership of the accounting and finance function and help guide the company through its next stage of growth. This is not a Controller role where you simply close the books and report what already happened. They are looking for someone who can dig into the numbers, understand what they mean for the business, and turn that information into ideas and solutions. You will work directly with the Company President and senior leadership while overseeing a small accounting function. This is a hands on role where you will own the day to day accounting while also providing the financial insight needed to improve margins, strengthen operations, and support future growth.

What You’ll Do

• Own monthly, quarterly, and year end accounting and close processes
• Oversee AP, AR, general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
• Prepare and present income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reporting, and other financial reports
• Monitor cash flow and develop forecasts to support operational and strategic decisions
• Develop and improve standard costing, job costing, and activity based costing methods
• Analyze material, labor, overhead, and production costs to understand true manufacturing costs
• Perform pricing and margin analysis across products, customers, and projects
• Identify financial trends, risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improved profitability
• Build financial models, forecasts, and scenario analyses to support growth and investment decisions
• Partner directly with the Company President and leadership team on financial strategy
• Maintain accurate inventory, fixed asset, prepaid expense, and accrued liability accounting
• Develop and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
• Work closely with the company's outside CPA firm on tax planning, filings, audits, and supporting documentation
• Ensure accounting practices and financial reporting remain GAAP compliant
• Lead, mentor, and develop the existing accounting team member and help build the department as the company grows
• Improve the use of QuickBooks and ERP/MRP systems for reporting, analysis, and overall efficiency
• Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement throughout the accounting function

What You Need to Have

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 7 to 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Previous Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or Controller level experience
• Manufacturing accounting experience
• Strong understanding of inventory and manufacturing accounting
• Experience with job costing, standard costing, margin analysis, and financial modeling
• Strong month end, quarter end, and year end close experience
• Strong general ledger, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation experience
• Advanced QuickBooks experience
• Strong ERP/MRP systems experience
• Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls
• Experience with cash flow management, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Experience leading, mentoring, and developing accounting staff
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work directly with company leadership

Bonus Points

Bonus points for CPA or MBA experience and a background working with a small or mid sized manufacturing company where you have had the opportunity to wear multiple hats.

Manufacturing experience is a must for this one. We are looking for someone who understands costing, inventory, margins, and how the financial side of the business connects directly to what is happening on the manufacturing floor.
