CooperDouglas is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead core accounting operations, guide a developing team, and partner with senior management. This high-visibility role focuses on accurate monthly closes, balance sheet integrity, and cash-flow optimization in a hybrid Escondido, CA environment.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of accounting, 2+ years in leadership, and strong US GAAP and ERP experience, with a manufacturing/software or public-company background preferred.

CooperDouglas is partnering with a growth-oriented technology-enabled business that operates with an entrepreneurial mindset within an established, publicly traded organization to hire a Controller. This is a hands-on leadership role for a finance professional who enjoys owning the books, strengthening processes, and acting as a trusted business partner to senior management. You will lead core accounting operations, guide a small and developing team, and provide the insight leadership needs to make confident decisions. This is a high-visibility position with real room to shape how the accounting function scales.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end close and financial reporting process, ensuring accurate and timely results under US GAAP.
• Own balance sheet integrity through disciplined account reconciliations and thorough review of supporting schedules.
• Oversee billing, accounts receivable, and collections activity, partnering with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and keep cash flowing.
• Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity and approve key journal entries and postings.
• Develop budget-to-actual and variance analysis by cost center to give management clear, actionable insight.
• Strengthen internal controls and documentation, helping the organization prepare for increased compliance expectations over time.
• Drive process improvement and automation initiatives that increase efficiency across a lean accounting function.
• Coach, develop, and supervise accounting and finance team members, keeping priorities on track and building their technical skills.
• Partner with finance leadership, operations, and sales on reporting, forecasting, and business decisions, and support audit activities as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
• Background in manufacturing, software or SaaS, or a public company environment is preferred; startup or high-growth experience is a plus.
• Strong command of US GAAP, advanced Excel skills, and hands-on experience with an ERP system.
• Exposure to internal controls and SOX is a plus; deep SOX experience is not required.
• A flexible, roll-up-your-sleeves approach with the ability to balance detailed accounting work and strategic business partnership.
• Strong communication and coaching skills, a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines.

This is a hybrid role in Escondido, CA.

Compensation up to $165,000 + annual bonus + full benefits!
