Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established organization in the Metro Detroit area on an opportunity for an experienced Accounting & Finance Leader to oversee accounting operations within a complex, highly regulated, multi-entity environment.

This is a hands-on role balancing leadership with day-to-day execution, working closely with senior leadership while directing financial reporting, compliance, accounting operations, and a team of accounting professionals in a hybrid

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience and prior leadership experience.
• HUD accounting and reporting experience preferred.
• Experience in nonprofit accounting and complex multi-entity environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting activities across a complex portfolio of legal entities.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Review financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Manage consolidated and intercompany accounting activities.
• Oversee HUD-regulated and affordable housing accounting requirements.
• Mentor and develop accounting professionals; partner with leadership on budgeting and forecasting.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys balancing leadership with day-to-day execution. This individual will work closely with senior leadership while overseeing financial reporting, compliance, accounting operations, and a team of accounting professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead accounting activities across a complex portfolio of legal entities
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
• Review financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting
• Manage consolidated and intercompany accounting activities
• Oversee accounting and compliance requirements associated with HUD-regulated and affordable housing operations
• Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Coordinate annual audits and recurring external reporting requirements
• Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Oversee cash management and other financial operations
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting professionals
• Partner with auditors, regulatory agencies, financial partners, and other external stakeholders
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, reporting processes, workflows, and internal efficiencies
• Support organizational initiatives, new entities, transitions, and other strategic projects

Ideal background:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior accounting leadership experience
• HUD accounting and reporting experience strongly preferred
• Experience working within nonprofit accounting
• Strong experience supporting complex multi-entity organizations
• Experience with regulatory reporting, compliance, and external audits
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Advanced Excel and financial reporting capabilities
• Experience working within an ERP/accounting system
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to remain actively involved in day-to-day accounting
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across an organization
