Job summary

Strategic Employment is seeking a Controller for a well-established nonprofit in Mid-City, Los Angeles, CA. The role reports to the CFO and oversees GL, AP and payroll, serving as the primary liaison for audits and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will lead a high-visibility finance function, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain robust internal controls while coordinating external audits and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 6–12+ years of progressive accounting experience with management progression.
• Experience at an organization with $100M+ operating budget.
• Direct ownership of external audit liaison, internal controls, financial reporting and cash management.
• Full-cycle accounting operations exposure: GL, AP and payroll.

We are working with a well-established nonprofit in the Mid-City area on a Controller search. This role reports directly to the CFO, oversees a team across general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll, and serves as the primary liaison for external audits and regulatory compliance.

Location:Mid-City, Los Angeles, CA — Fully Onsite, Monday through Friday

Compensation: Up to $165,000 Base + Benefits

Must-Haves:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
• 6–12+ years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated management progression
• Experience at an organization with $100M+ operating budget
• Has directly owned external audit liaison, internal controls, financial reporting, and cash management
• Full-cycle accounting operations exposure: GL, AP, and payroll

Strong Pluses:

• CPA or active CPA candidate
• Nonprofit, government-contracted, or grant-funded organization experience
• ERP or accounting system implementation/migration experience
