Job summary

Walrath Recruiting, Inc. in Albany, NY is seeking a seasoned financial leader to oversee all day-to-day accounting and financial operations for a nonprofit organization.

You will maintain the general ledger, prepare monthly and annual statements, and lead budgeting and forecasting efforts. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred), 10+ years in nonprofit accounting with supervisory experience, and strong GAAP, fund accounting, and IRS Form 990 knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grant compliance, and IRS Form 990.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the organization.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial records.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, and bank reconciliations.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and monitor organizational performance against the budget.
• Prepare financial forecasts and provide recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and all federal, state, and local regulations.
• Coordinate and manage annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Present financial information and reports to executive leadership.
• Monitor organizational cash reserves and investment accounts.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and operational efficiencies.
