Our nonprofit client is seeking a Controller in the Charlotte area. This role is designed for a finance professional who combines technical mastery with a passion for mission-driven work.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership & Advisory
- Provide high-level consultation to senior management and Boards of Directors regarding fiscal health and strategic planning.
- Analyze financial data to recommend systemic changes that improve overall performance and efficiency.
Operations & Systems Management
- Oversee full-cycle financial operations, including GL, AP/AR, treasury, and fixed assets.
- Evaluate, implement, and manage financial software systems to streamline client workflows.
- Re-engineer internal controls and accounting processes to mitigate risk and enhance transparency.
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare, interpret, and present comprehensive financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Coordinate annual audits and serve as the lead liaison with independent auditors.
- Ensure rigorous compliance with federal and state statutory requirements (including IRS and Labor Department filings).
- Manage payroll activities and monthly reconciliations for a varied portfolio of business lines.
Budgeting & Analysis
- Facilitate sound fiscal planning by developing accurate revenue and expense projections.
- Assist clients in budget preparation and the development of key performance metrics.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required. A Master’s degree and/or CPA designation is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 6+ years of experience in comprehensive financial statement preparation and presentation.
- Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with grant management, cost accounting, or job costing is a plus.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and "business lines" simultaneously with minimal supervision.
