Jobot seeks an experienced Controller in Berkeley, CA to lead residential and commercial property accounting for 100+ properties in a growing portfolio. This in-office role requires managing the accounting team and shaping financial processes.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in property accounting, strong AppFolio and Yardi skills, and proven leadership in coordinating budgeting, reporting, and tax/compliance across multi-property setups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; Master's preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in full-time property accounting.
• Experience leading an accounting team of 5+ including remote members with 4+ years in leadership.
• Strong expertise in AppFolio (10+ years).
• Strong background in AP/AR, reporting, and budgeting within Yardi.
• Experience with rent increases, utility billing, delinquency management, and tax compliance across large multi-property portfolios.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly reporting with budget variance review, accruals, and account classification.
• Oversee rent increase processes across properties and locales.
• Manage utility billing and reimbursements across profiles and methods.
• Audit monthly resident charges and credits per lease terms.
• Lead corporate accounting functions: reporting, budgeting, billing, and payments.
• Oversee company-wide approval and payment workflows.
• Co-lead annual budgeting with operations leadership.
• Co-lead aged receivables and delinquency processes with operations team.
• Lead annual property tax, business license, and municipal compliance for 100+ properties.
• Supervise and manage the accounting team and assign tasks.
• Handle accounts receivable inquiries from tenants and third parties.
• Serve as key financial contact for clients, owners, and partners.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Complete monthly reporting, including budget variance review, accrual entries, and account classification review
• Execute the rent increase process across multiple property types, locales, and designations
• Oversee and participate in utility billing and reimbursements across varied billing profiles and methodologies
• Audit monthly resident charges and credits to ensure alignment with lease terms
• Manage corporate accounting, including reporting, budgeting, billing, and payments
• Oversee the company-wide approval and payment workflow
• Co-lead the annual budgeting process with operations leadership
• Co-lead aged receivables and delinquency processes, including 3-day notices, with the operations team
• Lead annual property tax, business license, and municipal registration and payment campaigns for 100+ properties
• Supervise and manage the accounting team, including workflow and task assignments
• Handle accounts receivable inquiries from tenants and third parties
• Serve as a key financial contact for clients, owners, and company partners

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is the minimum education requirement; Master's degree or industry-specific certification preferred
• Minimum 10 years of experience, with a focus on full-time property accounting
• Experience leading and managing an accounting team of 5 or more, including remote members, with 4+ years in leadership
• Strong background in expert and advanced proficiency in AppFolio (10+ years)
• Strong background in AP/AR, reporting, and budgeting within Yardi
• Proven experience with rent increases, utility billing and reimbursements, delinquency management, and property tax and municipal compliance across large multi-property portfolios
