Qualifications

Position Summary

The Controller will oversee all aspects of the company's accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and process improvement. This individual will own the month-end close process, oversee reporting to investors, partner directly with company leadership, and mentor the accounting team while fostering a collaborative and empowering environment.

This role is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional with mortgage and lending industry experience who enjoys both strategic leadership and rolling up their sleeves to solve complex accounting challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes


• Prepare accurate financial statements and management reporting packages


• Oversee investor reporting and ensure timely, accurate financial information


• Manage accounting related to mortgage lending and securitization activities


• Maintain compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements


• Develop, document, and improve accounting policies and internal controls


• Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements across the accounting function


• Lead accounting system enhancements and software implementation initiatives


• Partner directly with the CFO and company partners on financial reporting and strategic initiatives


• Mentor and develop accounting staff while fostering accountability and professional growth


• Serve as a hands-on leader who is comfortable diving into complex accounting issues when needed

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA required)


• Progressive accounting leadership experience with recent Controller or Assistant Controller experience


• Strong background in the mortgage lending industry


• Experience with securitization accounting


• Demonstrated ownership of month-end close and financial reporting


• Experience preparing reporting packages for investors


• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements


• Experience leading accounting software implementations


• Experience identifying and implementing accounting automation initiatives


• Advanced technical accounting skills with exceptional attention to detail
