Job summary

Vertech is seeking a Control Systems Integrator III - Energy in Irvine, CA. You will design, program, and implement PLC/HMI based control systems for solar PV and battery energy storage projects, using SEL RTAC and Ignition Perspective.

You will lead the technical aspects of projects, collaborate with clients, and mentor junior engineers while developing robust, scalable control architectures and intuitive HMI interfaces across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical, mechanical, chemical or related engineering field or relevant experience.
• 3–7 years of experience developing PLC controlled SCADA systems in project-based environments.
• At least 2 years building PLC programs, HMI screens, and SCADA systems.
• Expert PLC programming across Rockwell, Siemens, GE or Modicon platforms.
• Thorough understanding of major HMI/SCADA platforms (Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View SE, GE Proficy).
• Knowledge of Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and DNP3 protocols.
• Ability to read and redline electrical drawings and P&IDs; specify PLC/I/O hardware.
• Ignition Perspective, SEL RTAC, or solar (PV, BESS) experience a big plus.
• Ignition Gold and Wonderware Certified Developer status or willingness to earn in first year.
• Strong problem solving, communication skills, and ability to work independently on multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, program and implement PLC/HMI control systems using SEL RTAC and Ignition Perspective.
• Design and implement SCADA for real-time data, alarms, and control at solar PV and BESS sites.
• Own the control system architecture and document key technical decisions.
• Write structured, bug-free PLC code.
• Design intuitive, aesthetically pleasing HMI interfaces.
• Act as technical lead and primary client contact on projects.
• Break down components and mentor junior engineers toward correct solutions.
• Test, troubleshoot, and validate systems in-house and in the field.
• Create SOO documents and document control system designs and procedures.

What You Will Be Doing

• Plan, design, program and implement PLC/HMI based control systems, primarily using SEL RTAC and Ignition Perspective
• Design and implement SCADA systems for real-time data acquisition, alarming, and control at solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) sites
• Own the control system architecture (PLC, SCADA, networks, I/O, and interfaces) and document the key technical decisions
• Write structured, well-documented, bug-free PLC code
• Design intuitive, easy-to-navigate, aesthetically pleasing HMI interfaces
• Act as the technical lead on projects and the primary technical contact for the client
• Break down the technical components of the project and help lead junior level engineers down the right path
• Test, troubleshoot, and validate systems in-house and in the field through startup and commissioning
• Write sequence of operations (SOO) documents and document control system designs, configurations, and procedures

What You Need for this Position

• BS in electrical, mechanical, chemical or related engineering field or relevant experience
• Three to seven years of experience developing PLC controlled SCADA systems, preferably in a project based industry
• At least two years of experience developing PLC programs, HMI screens, and SCADA systems
• Expert PLC programming in ladder logic, function block diagram, and structured text across multiple PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, GE, or Modicon)
• Thorough understanding of at least one major HMI/SCADA platform (Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View SE, or GE Proficy)
• Working knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and DNP3
• Comfortable reading and redlining electrical drawings and P&IDs and specifying PLC and I/O hardware
• Experience with Ignition Perspective, SEL RTAC, or solar (PV, BESS) and power projects is a big plus
• Ignition Gold and Wonderware Certified Developer status, or willing to earn both within your first year
• Strong problem solving and communication skills, and the ability to work independently across multiple projects
