Job summary

Alliant Energy seeks an Apprentice or Journey level plant operator to ensure safe and efficient operation of steam turbine generating units and auxiliaries at Burlington Generating Station in Iowa. The role emphasizes safety leadership, adherence to environmental and safety rules, and timely reporting of abnormal conditions.

You will operate control equipment, monitor gauges, start and shut down units, and assist with training, PMs, and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read P&ID’s and operating manuals.
  • Mechanical aptitude and reading and math knowledge.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies.
  • Safety training such as Lock-Out/Tag-Out may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate control equipment to ensure safe operation of boilers, turbines and auxiliaries.
  • Start, operate, inspect and shut down steam generating units and related equipment.
  • Observe and record pressures, temperatures and flows; monitor meters and gauges.
  • Prepare logs and reports; inform supervisor of abnormal conditions.
  • Assist in training and housekeeping; perform PM and assist maintenance.

Information on these benefit programs is available on our Careers site.Training LocationsBurlington Generating StationResidency RequirementNot subject to residency requirements.Job DescriptionJob SummaryResponsible for the safe and efficient operation of all steam turbine generating units, steam generating units, auxiliary equipment, etc., in the plant for a given shift.What you will doDemonstrate leadership in the area of safety.Observe safety rules, policies, and practices.Encourage safe work behaviors and promptly correct conditions and unsafe behavior which may lead to accidents.Ensure strict adherence to corporate values in complying with all environmental, safety and other laws and regulations.Ensure that all aspects of plant operations remain in compliance with environmental rules and regulations.Operate control equipment to obtain safe and proper operation of boilers, turbines and auxiliary equipment.Start, operate, inspect and shut down all steam turbine generating units, steam generating units and all associated auxiliary equipment.Observe and record pressures, temperatures and flows on all operating equipment; check to see that all meters and gauges indicate normal conditions for loading on units.Operate switchboard and associated equipment to obtain safe and proper operation of plant and system electrical equipment.Prepare logs and reports as required.Inform the Operating Crew Foreman (where applicable) or supervisor of any abnormal or unusual conditions that may occur.Performs troubleshooting activities related to plant operating systems.Assist in cleaning and housekeeping of all plant equipment and operating areas.Assist in training of employees.Assist in Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures to take equipment out of service and to restore equipment to active status.Perform PM and may assist with maintenance work.Perform all work according to established procedures and safety practices.Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.The above duties are not an inclusive list of duties to be performed for this position.
