Job summary

Xcel Energy is hiring a Control Room Operator - B Apprentice at Maddox Station, Hobbs, NM. The role focuses on safe operation, inspection, and startup/shutdown of plant equipment, with hands-on and classroom training as directed by management.

Given requirements include a high school diploma or GED, rotating shifts, safety compliance, and a baselined audiogram. The position offers robust benefits and career development through a four-year apprenticeship path to Journeyman status.

Qualifications

• Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Plant Operator Selection Systems (POSS) test
• Must work rotating shifts
• Must respond to overtime and call outs
• Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Valid driver's license
• Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
• Must take Base line Audiogram
• Knowledge of equipment operation such as pumps and motor controls and operation and power plant/industrial operations experience desired
• Successfully pass the Xcel Energy screening requirements, which include a drug test, security clearance and other exams that are required by federal regulations, such as OSHA and DOT, will be performed as required
• One year of industrial electrical experience desired

Responsibilities

• Operate plant equipment safely and inspect equipment
• Perform unit startup and shutdown procedures
• Run water tests and assist with safety procedures
• Participate in hands-on training and classroom training including PPE compliance
