Job summary

Xcel Energy in Hobbs, NM is seeking a Control Room Operator - B Apprentice at Maddox Station. The role involves safe operation of plant equipment, inspections, startup/shutdown, and water testing. Training includes hands-on and classroom instruction toward the Control Room Operator B Journeyman credential.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, POSS test, rotating shifts, safety compliance, and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Travel to other locations may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must have passed Edison Electric Institute POSS test.
• Must be able to work rotating shifts.
• Must respond to overtime and call outs.
• Must follow safety rules including PPE and hard hat.
• Able to lift 50 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be respirator qualified (PFT).
• Must take baseline audiogram.
• Experience with pumps, motor controls, and power plant/industrial operations is preferred.
• Successful completion of company screening (drug test, security clearance, OSHA/DOT exams).
• One year of industrial electrical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate plant equipment safely and inspect/clean equipment.
• Execute unit startup and shutdown.
• Run water tests and assist with safety procedures (LOTO, confined space).
• Participate in hands-on and classroom training and complete apprenticeship requirements.
