Job summary

AEP Texas is seeking a Contractor Safety Program Manager to lead the contractor safety management program, overseeing qualification, approval, assurance, and performance with a focus on improving field safety and governance.

The role partners with Operations, Safety and Health, Procurement, Legal, and Emergency Management to verify contractor qualifications and ensure safety programs are consistently applied in the field.

Responsibilities

• Lead contractor qualification and VERO oversight ensuring enrollment, qualification, renewals, documentation quality, and performance reporting.
• Conduct risk-based desktop reviews of safety programs, OSHA records, and incident evidence to support audits.
• Perform field audits and interviews to assess hazard recognition, pre-job planning, stop-work authority, and supervisor follow-through.
• Develop and manage a risk-based contractor audit schedule and corrective action closures.
• Maintain contractor scorecards, analyze performance trends, and identify systemic weaknesses for oversight.
• Manage conditional approvals and Safety Improvement Plans with clear ownership, dates, and verification.
• Coordinate contractor safety governance, engagement, and learning through safety committee meetings and leadership forums.
• Oversee incident investigations, ensure timely reporting, root-cause analysis, and effective corrective actions.
